5 Reasons Why We Love to Celebrate Valentine's Day
Jan 17th 2023
Even for those who enjoy cold weather activities, winter can begin to wear on a person. The days are mostly gray and spring still seems far away.
Luckily, Valentine’s Day is a way to lighten the mood, with red hearts and corny valentine cards, maybe some flowers and chocolate candy.
What reasons do you have for celebrating Valentine’s Day? We’ve come up with five:
- For the true procrastinator, Valentine’s Day offers an excuse to finally put away the Christmas decorations and replace them with Valentine's Day hearts, wreaths and cupids. Bonus: You can keep up those red Christmas lights a little longer!
- While Groundhog Day marks the actual half-way point of winter, Valentine’s Day seems a more fitting way to anticipate the coming of spring. After all, it’s two weeks closer to the Vernal Equinox. And it celebrates love and affection – an appropriate link with a season known for new life and rebirth.
- Valentine’s Day is a “lite” holiday. Compared to Christmas, there’s much less pressure to give extravagant gifts. The mood is happy and playful, without being drenched in religious tradition, nostalgia and family tension. I mean, when’s the last time you sang a Valentine’s Day song?
- Without the hype, you can enjoy the unsophisticated pleasures of the holiday – cheesy valentine cards, candy, flowers, maybe a special dinner or romantic gesture. Leave little love notes in lunch boxes, wear something red or organize a simple work office party.
- Valentine’s Day gives us an opportunity to show the special people in our lives that we care. In the midst of our daily grind, during the coldest part of the year, what better way to provide a small respite and warm a heart than with a heartfelt “I love you!”
Whatever way you choose to celebrate – with someone you love or in single self-indulgence and self-care - Valentine’s Day is a day to add a little something special to an otherwise blah winter day.
