Beautiful Blooms: Enhance Your Outdoors with Floral Decor

May 28th 2024

Statues, garden art and other accessories can turn your garden into a backyard oasis.

Flowers in bloom are one of the most beautiful aspects of summer. The colors, the profusion of scents, buzzing bees and fluttering butterflies - summer gardens truly are a paradise.

Your garden may consist of a few plants in a window, planters on a balcony, pots on a deck or a backyard full of flowers, shrubs and a vegetable plot. But whether or not you have a green thumb, you can enjoy the feel of a garden with floral decor for your indoor and outdoor spaces that feature flowers in full bloom.

Here are four of our favorite ways to “plant” floral decor all around your house this summer.

Wreaths

Consider a floral wreath one of your home’s basic accessories. Just as you change rings or bracelets to suit your mood or style, front door wreaths personalize your entry space and set the tone for your interior.

Inside, wreaths can brighten up an entryway, fireplace mantel, or even a bedroom, dining area or kitchen.

For summer, dial up your decor with floral wreaths featuring vibrant green foliage and bright summer colors. Coordinate with a color in your decor or add an unexpected shade. In a garden, there are no wrong color combinations!

Pillows

You probably use pillows indoors to add visual interest and a pop of color. Why not give your outdoor furniture the same floral makeover?

Outdoor throw pillows come in a range of colors and designs, so there’s no excuse not to pick a few posies to accent your patio furniture. From soft watercolors to vibrant prints, abstract or true-to-life, flowers are a favorite design motif for outdoor pillows.

Outdoor furniture and cushions are expensive. Throw pillows are an easy and more affordable way to update the look of a patio set that has seen a few seasons. Consider mixing solids, patterns and textures, and buying different sized pillows for comfort and contrast. Layer pillows, with the larger ones in back and the smaller pillows in front. You'll create a more comfortable space to relax, with extra design zing!

Plus, outdoor pillows are made to withstand the weather, so your floral pillows can stay “planted” on your porch season after season.

Flags

More and more people are discovering the fun of decorating with flags!

“What started as a rare and expensive form of personal expression has turned into a multimillion-dollar home decorating phenomenon,” notes the Washington Post. Many homeowners have compiled a full collection of decorative flags and change them out regularly depending on the season or holiday.

Inexpensive, playful and expressive, summer flags personalize your home with a friendly sentiment or image. Flag designs are colorful and diverse. They can contain a message of welcome or reflect a favorite summer pastime. And, of course, many flags feature garden themes!

Place a floral-themed garden flag on a stand in your flowerbed, by your porch, front door or back patio. These diminutive decorations will add color and a flutter of movement to your yard throughout the season.

On a larger scale, house flags are ready to fly from the flagpole on your lawn or by your front door. Welcome visitors, add color, hint at a hobby or convey an attitude. You’ll find vibrant flags in durable fabrics that resist fading, so they’ll be just as attractive next season.

Like the flowers in a beautiful garden, decorative flags offer so many colors and styles, you’ll find it hard to pick just one. And that’s okay, since flags are pretty and affordable, too!

Statues

Humans have added statues to their gardens for thousands of years. Discoveries of Roman statues in the 1700s inspired a renewed fervor for garden statues in Georgian England. Archeologists have even found statues carved from wooly mammoth tusks during the Stone Age.

These days, it seems, no garden is complete without at least some form of creative adornment.

We love gardens because of the variety of blooms and changing colors. At the same time, we can use garden statues to fill spaces and add interest and personality to our gardens. Not only do statues add interest to a garden, many mimic their natural environment by reflecting floral designs and themes.

When choosing a statue for your garden, consider the style and size. Outdoor statue styles vary widely, so start with a design that blends with the style of the space in which it will be displayed. A classical statue like an angel or urn, would be appropriate for a formal garden, while whimsical gnomes and colorful ceramic mushrooms will look right at home in a casual or cottage style garden.

Be thoughtful about the scale, as well. A very small garden statue can get hidden as plants leaf out and flower during the season. However, a statue that's too large for a spot will look odd and conspicuous.

Statues and garden art are made of durable materials like stone, ceramics, metal and resin. They come in a huge range of styles that perfectly express your decorating preferences.

Whether you feature a serene buddha or a funny gnome, a woodland creature or religious figure, a garden statue can bring an element of whimsy or contemplation to your yard.

A flower garden is one of the joys of summer. But you don’t need a green thumb to bring the color and variety of a garden to your home.

With summer in full bloom, there’s no better time to add some floral decor to your home and garden.

By incorporating floral decor such as wreaths, pillows, flags and statues, you can bring the beauty of your garden into every aspect of your home. They’ll add personality to your outdoor spaces and color to your life.
