How To Fix Common Patio Problems

Jul 23rd 2020

You’ve been enjoying long al fresco dinners and afternoons in the shade, but now your patio is looking a little less than pristine. No problem. We put together a handy guide to help you repair some of the most common patio problems. Keep entertaining on that patio for years to come with these simple fixes.

Issue #1: Unwanted Weeds

One of the most unpleasant things to look at on your patio is weeds coming up through the cracks in the concrete. When you first see weeds, it’s important to take care of them so they don’t come back. The first way to remove weeds is to simply pull them out making sure you get them from their roots. We recommend that you sweep your patio off weekly to help prevent any unwanted seeded dirt or soil. If you can’t seem to get rid of those annoying weeds, go to your local nursery to purchase a herbicide to remove them.

Issue #2: Visible Dirt And Mold

Many people would think to turn soap and a sponge. While that may work, it takes time and it’s only a quick fix. If you want to remove dirt and mold, use your pressure washer along with muriatic acid. You will first power wash the entire patio removing all dirt and mold. Once that is complete, mix muriatic acid with water and use a sponge to cover the surface. Finally, use your power washer for one last rinse removing all excess acid and dirt. This will make your patio look brand new.

Issue #3: Paver Cracks

Over time, your pavers will begin to crack. Now, if they are small and hard to notice, you can leave them alone. However, if you have large or deep cracks that are affecting your patio, it might be a good time to call a professional. Each paver will need to be replaced now, and you want to have it done right so it’s safe down the road. We recommend calling the same company or professional you used to put in your patio in the beginning.

Issue #4: Deposits Causing Paver Fading

Your patio is what brings your outdoor space together. The last thing you want to deal with is lime or mineral deposits that can stain those beautiful patio pavers. If you begin to notice your pavers fading or not looking normal, take your power washer and clean off the entire surface. This will help remove those deposits that are causing discoloration and will prevent it in the future.

If your patio is experiencing any of these issues, now’s a good time to address them. Keep your patio in the best condition possible so you can enjoy it for years to come. Need a little backyard patio decorating inspiration? We have you covered here!
