Mess-Free Ways to Decorate Your Pumpkins
Sep 18th 2018
Pumpkins are a Halloween staple. Take a walk down any street and you’re sure to see a Jack-O-Lantern or two at someone's front door. But who says you always have to bring out the knives and carve your pumpkins? Switch things up this Halloween without the mess of pumpkin carving.
Spooky Spider:
Turn your mini pumpkins into creepy-crawlies! Glue black pipe cleaners for legs at the bottom of mini pumpkins. Then, paint some eyes or glue some googly eyes to complete the look. All that’s left to do is add them to your decorations to make them look like they’re crawling around!
Bookworm Jack:
You can cut pages from your local newspaper or an old book to cover your Jack-O-Lantern for a unique look. Use black and white pages to help to create a dark and bleak Halloween look, or add strips of designed wrapping paper for a fun, upbeat style.
Painted Pumpkins:
Not only is painting your pumpkin is a great way to display your artistic skills, but it’s also a great and safe way for children to decorate their pumpkins. You can tape stencils to your pumpkin and remove them after painting to make it easier Just make sure to lay out some newspaper beforehand so you don’t make too much of a mess!
Chalkboard Pumpkins:
Did you know that you could add chalkboard paint to your pumpkin? With a chalkboard pumpkin you can change your messages or designs whenever you’d like. You can also place a chalkboard painted pumpkin with a piece of chalk near your front door and have guests write messages of their own!
Push Pin Pumpkins:
You can write out words or create patterns by using push pins. Draw out your pattern with a pen or marker, and then push your pins over the design. Use silver pins for a shiny look or multi-colored pins for a unique design. This is a quick and easy way to decorate your pumpkin and is perfect for anyone who lacks artistic skills (writer included).
Combine!:
If you’re having trouble deciding which idea to use, why not combine them? You can take out your paint and brush some eyes onto your spider, or add some thumbtacks to add a small design for a finishing touch to your decoupage pumpkin.
