Pool Maintenance Checklist

May 7th 2018

If you’re new to pool ownership, the thought of maintenance can seem daunting. However, it is crucial to keep your pool water clean for the safety of you and your fellow swimmers. Make routine pool maintenance easy by following this simple checklist:

Daily

Skim & Brush

Use a pool skimmer and a brush to clear out leaves or other debris that made its way into your pool.

Test & Add Chemicals

When it comes to  pool chemical levels, it’s far easier to maintain than correct. It may seem counter-intuitive, but treating your pool regularly actually requires less time, effort, and chemicals than waiting and trying to fix major water imbalances down the road. Test your pool water daily or at least a few times a week to keep your water healthy.

Check the Filter

Make sure the  filter is working properly and is clean.

Once A Week

Vacuum the Pool

Vacuum your pool weekly or whenever you notice any dirt or algae buildup. Consider an automatic pool cleaner to make the job even easier.

Clean the Deck

Give your pool deck a good scrub or power wash once a week to remove any slippery buildup.

Safety Checks

When it comes to  pool safety, you can never be too careful. Check ladders and all other pool accessories and equipment weekly to make sure they are in optimal condition.

Other Helpful Tips:

  • Run your water pump for 10 to 12 hours each day
  • Cover your pool when it’s not in use. This will keep the water much cleaner and can prevent wildlife from falling in!
  • Keep a supply of pool chemicals handy at all times to prevent gaps in treatment
  • Make notes of your maintenance efforts so you know when the last time the pool was skimmed, brushed, treated, etc.
